چکیده

Of those surgeons using laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) for localized prostate cancer, with or without robotic-assistance (RALRP), most prefer the antegrade approach to dissect the prostate and neurovascular bundles. After dividing the anterior bladder neck, a key manoeuvre is adequate anterior retraction of the prostate to allow safe and timely dissection of the posterior bladder neck. During LRP, this step is commonly achieved by inserting a curved metal sound through the urethra, allowing the assistant to maintain upward traction on the prostate while dissection of the posterior bladder neck proceeds. However, this manoeuvre is rendered all but impossible during RALRP as the camera arm of the da Vinci® (Intuitive ET AL.

CyberKnife Ablation of a Solitary Para-Aortic Lymph Node Metastasis After Robotic-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy

Introduction: Radical prostatectomy is an effective curative treatment option for organ-confined prostate cancer. There is a recent trend in offering curative treatment to patients with oligometastatic disease. More sensitive imaging modalities can identify oligometastatic disease that is not usually detected by conventional imaging techniques. Case presentation: We present a case in which a s...

Simultaneous robotic low anterior resection and prostatectomy for adenocarcinoma of rectum and prostate: initial case report

BACKGROUND We report a case of synchronous rectal and prostate cancer treated successfully with simultaneous da Vinci robotic-assisted low anterior resection of the rectum and robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy to address both cancers. CASE PRESENTATION Recently, minimally invasive surgical techniques using da Vinci robot® system (Intuitive Surgical, Sunnyvale, USA) were intr...

Pitfalls of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy: a comparison of positive surgical margins between robotic and laparoscopic surgery.

OBJECTIVES To compare the surgical outcomes of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, including the frequency and location of positive surgical margins. METHODS The study cohort comprised 708 consecutive male patients with clinically localized prostate cancer who underwent laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (n = 551) or robot-assisted radical prostatectom...

A comparison of the incidence and location of positive surgical margins in robotic assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and open retropubic radical prostatectomy.

PURPOSE Surgical technique, patient characteristics and method of pathological review may influence surgical margin status. We evaluated the incidence and location of positive surgical margins in 200 sequential robotic assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and 200 sequential open radical retropubic prostatectomy cases. MATERIALS AND METHODS From July 2002 until December 2006 a total of ...
